The MITRE Corporation is an independent, not-for-profit corporation that provides scientific research and development support to the Government. MITRE operates multiple Federally Funded Research and Development Centers (FFRDC) by providing innovative, practical solutions for some of our nation’s most critical challenges in defense and intelligence, aviation, civil systems, homeland security, the judiciary, cyber and healthcare. 

MITRE is expanding its existing McLean Campus and has recently added a fourth building. In order to accommodate this expansion MITRE is improving its shared amenity spaces. These are spaces that are shared by the entire MITRE community and provide opportunities for employee wellness, collaboration, and professional development. These spaces include: cafeteria, fitness center, health services/nurses’ office, conference center, The MITRE Institute (academic and training facility), international outreach office, two coffee shops, print shop, security office, research resource center, and an IT solutions center. 

SKA’s experience with a wide variety of project types including workspace, conference centers, restaurants, and fitness centers allows us to bring a high level of design expertise to all components of the Main Street project. Additionally, the spaces are all being designed with a brand identity, a new concept that SKA is bringing to the corporate campus. This further establishes each component of Main Street with its own identity and environment intended to improve creativity and collaboration among the corporate community. Certain aspects of Main Street have already been completed, while others are in design and construction phases. The observed and documented success of the already completed components of Main Street, are clear indications that the overall vision for the campus, amenity spaces, and staff interaction is exactly appropriate and in certain aspects groundbreaking.
